Born to the human Angela Roth and the interdimensional demon Trigon, Rachel, initially known as Angela, fled to Azarath—an interdimensional sanctuary—upon learning of her father's sinister intentions. Renamed Arella in Azarath, beyond Trigon's grasp, she gave birth to her daughter, Rachel. Under the guidance of Azarath's monks, Rachel honed her powers and resisted her father's influence. Despite her efforts, Trigon eventually located her, prompting Rachel to flee to Earth to safeguard her mother and mentors. Recognizing her innate abilities, Trigon granted Rachel autonomy over her fate and bestowed upon her the title of Raven, offering her a place by his side. Eventually breaking free from her father's control, Raven joined forces with other young heroes as a member of the New Teen Titans.
