Lonesome George was a male Pinta Island Tortoise (Chelonoidis abingdonii) who became famous as the last known individual of his subspecies. He lived on the Galápagos Islands, specifically on the island of Pinta, until his death in 2012. Lonesome George was estimated to be around 100 years old at the time of his death.
